Being in the play requires a lot of commitment, even if you’re a minor character! Every part in the play matters whatsoever. That’s the fun part. Everybody has to be on time for rehearsals because it can be messy! Before rehearsals Miss.Boland gives us snacks and gives us time to settle in, we get time to get social, sit in our seats and get our script. In our tryouts everybody was quite nervous but the students in the tryouts tried their best to make a friendly environment . We try to make everybody as comfortable as we can! If they’re nervous we cheer them up and comfort them if anything happens. The rehearsals for the play is an anti-bullying space. Here we don’t condemn bullying. Or making fun of others!
Being in the play can be fun but also stressful. Being in a play is a challenging but rewarding experience. You have to connect with the audience and have chemistry with the people around you. It can be stressful to learn your lines or even just being in the background! Being nervous is understandable but it’s also important to overcome that fear, especially while being on stage. It is important to pay attention in rehearsals and learn your lines thoroughly and have connection with them.
The lovely teachers that participate in these activities and take time out of their day and practice with the students are, Ms.Boland, Mister Hurvitz, and Mr.Alvarez.
Ms.Boland teaches us the songs for the show and, Mr. Hurvitz specializes in teaching us acting. Mr.Alvarez gets in charge of the dancing and that’s how we make the show come to life! This year we have been working on the musical Beetlejuice Jr version! We’ve been working hard. Being in the play comes with a lot of responsibilities, you mustn’t miss too many rehearsals, because at the end of the day, even if you’re not a lead in a show, your part still counts! You should give your full attention and effort to the teachers at all times, even when you’re tired. When you act disruptive during rehearsals, it takes time from your learning experience and others will take longer to learn your lines and songs we have to rehearse, even when we’re acting or dancing! You must give your attention at all times.
When more and more people start to act disruptive and do not behave, teachers will start to kick them out once there out of chances, when people leave the play, there roles leave their side to, people that behave at all times and attend rehearsals a lot, will often get the opportunity to change their roles or gain more, its like mini auditions all over again!
When I interviewed our lovely teachers, some questions that our teachers get often are, “Why did you give me that role?” You were judged on what you did, not what we believe you can do. Another question they get often is, “why did you choose this play? “. We had to think about who we have this year and what kind of show will fit the vibe, we try to be fresh and new.
If you consider yourself a good singer, good dancer or a good actress you should consider auditioning for the plays we have every year. Let this article be a guide for you.
I would like to reference you to one of Noticiasde218 articles about being in the play made by Bella Dehoyos.
