Lehman campus hosted a breakfast gathering for the new superintendent Marcel Deans on the inner terrace on Oct. 17.  Principals, parents and other educational leaders talked about goals and visions for the campus.

Deputy superintendent AAden Stern pays attention to instructions and monitors classes. His ideal vision for a classroom is one that’s noisy, busy, collaborative and productive. He says, “Teachers should try less to control students and see more of what they need.”

Executive superintendent Cristina Jimenez is in charge of solving problems regarding technology and labor. She says that “things take time” and students are always the top priority. Both she and superintendent Deans are working to make sure the technology used to scan in students and visitors is fully restored.  Lehman used to have three scanners but had to give one to another school.

The campus’ newest principals, Denise Williams and Jordana Bell, also shared their views. Williams, the principal of Lehman High School, said it’s a  “slow process to move a large school,” and that government officials should make more of an effort to fix problems in the school. Overall, she thinks that Lehman is a great school that has done nothing but grow since its founding.

Jordana Bell, the principal of Schuylerville, agrees that the campus is great, and shares the same concerns about technology problems. She says that it has a huge effect on her students, and that we should advocate more for more scanners. With the number of scanners reduced from three to two, students often have to wait in long lines to enter the building.

Parents at the event also shared their thoughts. Kymlee Valerie hopes the superintendent will continue to provide more growth and support for the campus. “He seems nice and approachable,” she said. She shares the concern for scanners as many other people do, and hopes the campus can work to fix the problem.
